Why the environment is important to me:
The environment is important to me as an athlete because I have seen how beautiful nature can be, and training lets me enjoy all that nature has to offer. But on the other hand I have seen what humans can do to the environment and destroy what they take for granted. I truly believe that a healthy environment leads to a healthy community and vice-versa.
Why I'm a Clean Air Champion:
Being a member of CAC is important to me because I see the issue of clean air at an all time high right now. Being an athlete and being outdoors for most of the day training, I can see the effects that all the pollution has on the environment and the effect that it has on people. I have raced around the world and have seen how bad the air pollution can get in some places. A year before the Olympics I did a race in Beijing as the Olympics test event. The air quality was so bad at the time, that on a "clear" day I could not see the tops of buildings because of all the smog in the air. Being in that environment made me realize that things have to change, and I want to be a part of that change.
